Gold Hill Vineyards & Brewery

Founded in 1980, Gold Hill Vineyard has been producing award winning Bordeaux  reds and Chardonnay since 1985. Since 2000, Italian and Rhone varietals have been offered. Gold Hill’s cellar and cave houses 3,500 cases of wines.

A long-term approach is taken in sustainable vineyard management. As the French write: “As long as man seeks to correct nature instead of listening to her, following her, and helping her, he will be on the road of error.”

Gold Hill Brewery opened in 1999. The seven barrel brew house is located at the winery. Gold Hill produces seasonals and new beers often.

Gold Hill Vineyard was founded in 1980 by Hank Battjes.
Hank worked for 27 years as an electrical engineer at GTE. During those years, Hank increased his knowledge of his passion, home wine making. Pursuing his dream, Hank located the current 80 acre parcel near Coloma, California. Over the next 10 years Hank commuted from his Palo Alto home. In 1985 the winery was bonded and in 1989 Hank completed the process from hobby to award-winning wine maker.

Hank’s daughter, Bryna, was married on the property, has experience in wedding planning and project management and can provide information about service providers including DJ’s, photographers, florists and caterers as well as bird releases.

Located one mile from the historic gold mining town of Coloma and Sutter’s Mill, the winery is open Thursday through Sunday year-round and by appointment.
