When Should You Go Rafting?

We offer rafting trips in California from April until the end of October every year, and each river has it’s own season that ranges in duration depending on upstream reservoirs or the rate of melt-off from the Sierra snowpack.

The 2017 California Whitewater Rafting Season: Beginner to Advanced Trips From April to October!

2017 has been an amazing year for whitewater rafting in California offering something for both the experienced and adventurous rafters, as well as the most apprehensive first-timers. A very wet winter resulted in higher than normal flows on all of our rivers during the spring snowmelt period. By mid-July, most rivers returned back to normal levels and the rafting season on free-flowing rivers without any upstream reservoirs ended. At the height of Summer, our fleet of dam-controlled rivers offered the full range of rafting opportunities from gentle Class I-II float trips to super challenging and technical Class V adventures.

The rafting season is far from over, however! Fall in California is a great time to go rafting: while the weather often remains warm, the river gets less crowded once the kids go back to school. Thanks to scheduled water releases from upstream reservoirs, these rivers will have excellent flows this Fall:

South Fork American: September: Thursday – Sunday departures; October: Friday – Monday departures. (Season ends October 31)
Middle Fork American: Departures available 7 days a week. (Season ends September 30)
Bonus: Join us this October for some great scenery and wild whitewater on the Class IV-IV+ Goodwin Canyon section of the Lower Stanislaus River near Knights Ferry. The 2017 Goodwin Canyon Double Days are scheduled for one weekend only – October 21st & 22nd (Saturday & Sunday). Don’t miss this once-a-year opportunity!
